Lazy blogger

Ok, I have been a bad blogger. I admit it, and I repent! Anyway, I have been working the last year with absolutely nooooo relief!!! Short staffed so I have been doing my job and road nursing(the part I really like.) Anyway, we had a major change in administration which shook up the whole place. Now, we are a small organization with Hospice and a Home Health Division. I still do the home health division, but the Pres of the Board/CEO is looking at profitability, so..... you know what comes next. I don't get to admit anyone who isn't profitable, ughhh. That recently took my census waaaay down. I had built a nice little census up and was getting regular referrals and then, BAM! Don't admit if this, don't admit if that, blah, blah, blah. So, I started doing other jobs in my downtime, to be helpful. Then the new administrator, which by the way, has no prior healthcare experience, starts messing with my job. She is saying things like, well, since your census is down, we'll put you here or well put you there. Now mind you, I love hospice and will do anything to further this care for the patients. However, I am not just gonna be "put" any ole place. I need to sorta know what my job is gonna be. So, I said no thak you, I will just work 4 days a week. Well, that is not the answer she had hoped for. So, she is holding my time off request for my vacation, which is in a week !!!!! Oh well, what the hay, I am going anyway, approved or not! Already booked the trip with my sister and we are going!! So, that is my rant for today, thank you very much for your support!

UPDATE

OK, long time no see. Briefly, I got the hospice job!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!! But wait.....you knew there would be a catch, right? I have to take and administration position in the Home Health department. Basically, starting a home health!!!!! I, who have no home health experience, am to start a home health! What, are these people crazy? Anyway, it is started, up and running and has been caring for patients since last summer. Got our survey done, WITH NO DEFICIENCIES!!!! I had to caps that, anyone in the industry knows what a nightmare a survey is. Basically, they come in and look for the needle in the haystack. If you have made any errors, I mean you better have every i dotted and t crossed or they will find it. So, I do that during the day and when I can, I take on call for hospice weekends and nights. That is the perk of this job, lol. I LOVE these patients. I don't mean that they are all wonderful. They are just like the rest of us. Some mean, some good, some with devils for family members, some a joy to be around. I mean that I get to do real patient care when it really means making a difference.
Which brings me to my next reason for visiting today. There is an incredibly guy, Randy Pausch, who is a professor at Carnegie Mellon. You simply must read his book, The Last Lecture and see the lecture itself. If will change your life! www.cs.cmu.edu/~pausch/

New creation

My neighbor's daughter had her baby Monday. I had wanted to try this pattern for some time and I'm pleased with it. It's the Baby Rings pattern from an older Annie's Attic booklet of mile-a-minute ghans.

Toddler cape and headband

I made this toddler size cape and headband for my neighbor's granddaughter. I couldn't find a pattern I liked so I used this poncho pattern and didn't join the rounds. Used Caron SS in rubine red and Patons bee mine in wuzzy white for the trim. It isn't a true red, more of a rasberry red. Approximately a size 18 mo-2T with a J hook.

hospital woes

Ok,
have taken another job, hoping it would be better.....wrong!!! This hospital job is in the lower depths of hospital hell!!! I swear, I love bedside nursing but this crap is gonna kill me!! Was scheduled for 12-24,25,26,27 all 12 hour shifts! I am exhausted!! Seemed like a bunch of pop drops to me. You know, time for Christmas celebrating so, let's drop Pop off at the hospital! Most days I had 6 to 7 patients and 5 of my group were total care! It is almost impossible to bathe, feed, change bed linens, medicate, check blood glucose levels, feed again, clean up the poops/change the bed again, medicate, blood glucose levels again, feed again, clean more poops/linens, medicate 6 or 7 patients!! That doesn't even take into consideration that the doc might write new orders which you have to do!!!!! Needless to say, I probably won't live through the holidays! I am still working my other job since I don't get insurance till Feb 6th, so am working an additional 16 hours/week there. The general idea in changing jobs was to be closer to home and see more of the family. Somehow, that is not working out. My sister came home for Christmas(from Ga.), was home for 6 days and I saw her for 7 hours!! As it worked out, since I'm new, I got scheduled for all the days around Christmas so bye-bye sis! Anyhoo, we shall see how it goes. Still hoping the hospice job opens up, that would just be perfect.
